Contemporary
Contemporary is a style of interpretive dance that embraces innovation and blending techniques from various genres like ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical. Contemporary is a diverse and constantly evolving dance form, but characteristics include emphasis on expression and emotion, fluidity of movement, and use of gravity and floorwork. It focuses closely on freedom of expression and improvisation.
In contemporary, a dancer learns how to communicate your emotions by moving every inch of your body with nuance and intention. This form of dance focuses on the contract and release of the body. Contemporary provides physical activity while challenging emotional growth, and helps dancers to be creative and think outside the box.
